A man who was threatening police with a grenade in Poltava took a law enforcement officer hostage. This was reported by Deputy Interior Minister Anton Herashchenko.

"The latest news is that a police officer has been replaced by a chief of criminal investigation, who volunteered to risk his life instead of an ordinary criminal investigation officer. The criminal was provided with a car, and now he is riding across Poltava with the hostage, he is accompanied by police officers,” Herashchenko told.

A special operation is underway.

As we reported earlier, in Poltava, a man was trying to resist an arrest by threatening police officers with a grenade

"A special operation to detain a suspect for illegal possession of a vehicle is being carried out on Ostapa Vyshny Street. Trying to avoid responsibility, the man is resisting and threatening the police with a grenade. Negotiations are underway," the statement said.

Explosives technicians, an investigative task force, criminal investigation officers of the regional police and the Poltava police department, as well as other special services are working at the site.
