Zbigniew Brzezinski, ex-National Security Advisor for President Jimmy Carter, died aged 89. This was reported by his daughter Mika on Twitter

"My father passed away peacefully tonight," she wrote.

Brzezinski died in Virginia’s hospital.

Zbigniew Brzezinski served as a counselor to President Lyndon B. Johnson from 1966 to 1968 and was President Jimmy Carter's National Security Advisor from 1977 to 1981. He is the author of a number of studies in sphere of international relations and geopolitics. Brzezinski supported Ukraine’s territorial integrity in recent years.

In January 2014 Brzezinski wrote on his Twitter page:

"Russians wake up! Russia-backed repression in Ukraine will turn eventually into a disaster for Russia itself."
