Poland plans to build fence along the borders with Belarus and Ukraine to prevent the migration of wild boars that are infected with African swine fever (ASF). This is reported by Polish Radio.
Now Polish officials are studying legal and environmental conditions of the construction of fence against wild boars along the border with Belarus and Ukraine. The results will be known within two or three weeks.
Minister of Agriculture of Poland Krzysztof Jurgiel said that the cost of the fence will be 130 million zł (30 million euros), and the length - 729 kilometers. The Ministry of Finance promises to provide such a sum.
According to experts, the cause of African swine fever in Poland were wild boars infected with this virus, which entered the territory of Poland from Belarus.
As Minister Jurgiel has estimated, the fence is necessary, despite the fact that in autumn the number of new foci of African swine fever should significantly decrease. The most dangerous months, when the development of the disease is increasing, is June, July and August.
