The police decided to undertake a set of preventive measures to prevent similar cases in the future, after the assault on Romani people near Lviv. Serhiy Knyazev, the Head of the National Police reported this on the conference call with the participation of the heads of the territorial unit on June 27, according to the press office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The Police has to make every effort to protect Romani people across the country.
Consequently, the police officers of the prevention, the criminal police, and the patrol police will undertake a number of activities to identify the place of residence and temporary residence of individuals of Romani nationality, as well as their transit by the state.
‘We have to ensure their safety until the criminal police find the source of such shameful offense and localize it,’ the head of the National Police stressed.
In addition, Knyazev imposed the heads regional units to urgently create investigation units, If they are not created yet and report on the implementation.
Reportedly, a group of teenagers in masks assaulted a Romani people’s camp at the outskirts of Lviv on Saturday night on June 24. As a result, 24 years old Romani was stabbed to death and three of them were hurt. The Police initiated criminal proceedings for murder and other articles of the Criminal Code.
The weapons used for the assault were taken from the crime scene. Later it became known that among detained teenagers ten of them are pupils from three Lviv schools.
Generally, the Police has identified 14 suspects.
The Security Service of Ukraine does not exclude that Russia may be involved in the assault.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs commented on the assault and expressed outrage. The representative of Romani organization claimed that they are not going to revenge for what happened.
All we know so far is that eight suspects have been arrested for two months without bail. The organizer of the assault is under suspicion of the homicide.
