Law enforcers opened the criminal proceeding due to the fire at Chornobyl exclusion zone as the National Police reported.
“In the exclusion zone, in about 70 km from Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant, the ignition of the dead grass and shrubs occurred. To curb the fire and liquidate the haze, the aviation and special equipment are involved. The detachments of the State Emergency Service work at the site,” the message said.
No new fire areas were spotted as of morning, April 6.
The law enforcers opened the criminal proceeding due to the ‘violation of the norms of fire protection determined by the legislation’.
On April 4, a large-scale forest fire began in Chornobyl exclusion zone. The fire claimed the area of 20 hectares.
Later, it was reported that the fire in Chornobyl exclusion zone is put out successfully, and the radiation background is back to normal. The investigation group will get to the site to look into the incident.
