Police investigates fire at Kyiv Pechersk Lavra as arson

The police have begun to investigate the fire that occurred at the second floor of the building owned by Kyiv Pechersk Lavra as Ukrainian News reported citing Oksana Tyshchenko, the spokeswoman of Pechersk district police department of Kyiv.

“The criminal proceeding due to deliberate destruction or damaging of the property was registered,” she said.

According to the police, the preliminary reason for the fire was the arson.

As we reported, the fire occurred in one of the buildings on the territory of Kyiv Pechersk Lavra on January 14 at 4:17 p.m.

Later, the rescuers localized it and dismantled the roof of the building to get to the site of fire on the second floor. It was reported that the fire happened at the lab complex, where the restoration works took place. The rescuers have extinguished fire the same day about 20:00.

Earlier, we reported that fire occurred at ‘Karpatnaftokhim’ factory in Kalush city in Ivano-Frankivsk region; 20 units of equipment and 110 rescuers were involved in putting the fire out. 

Besides, a restaurant burnt down in Kyiv, at the intersection of Zhukova and Sholem Aleichem Streets.
