The Police and the Security Service of Ukraine detained two people on August 17. They are probably involved into the organization of the attack on Kateryna Handziuk, Official of Kherson City Council. Artem Shevchenko, Spokesperson of Ukrainian MIA claimed this on Facebook.
‘Two individuals who are objectively suspected of the organization and participation in the attempted manslaughter of Handziuk are detained. In particular, among them is a detainee who was previously wanted by the National Police as a recorder on the video individual who was buying the weapon (sulfuric acid),’ Shevchenko said.
He noted that the investigation is establishing the involvement of the second detainee in the incident.
As we reported earlier, Kateryna Handziuk, Adviser of Kherson's Mayor was attacked near her place. The attacker soaked her with acid. the woman was hospitalized.
30 percent of her body was burned: head, arms, legs, chest and left eye.
The attack on the employee of the City Council of Kherson was reclassified from "Hooliganism" to "Serious physical injuries committed with the aim of intimidation", and after a while - on "Attempted murder with a special cruelty."
Yuriy Lutsenko took the case under his own control. He reported that the attack on the adviser was a part of the plan to destabilize the situation in the south of Ukraine. Later the investigation was transferred to the central office of the SBU.
Suspected in the attack was detained on August 3. He name is Mykola Novikov, previously detained for robbing and illegal weapons handling. He is a member of one of the criminal organizations in the Kherson region. According to Anton Gerashchenko, obviously, the detainee was fulfilling someone's order. Whereas, Gerashchenko added that they approximately know who was the proponent.
The Police have already published the picture of the second possible suspect in the attack on Kateryna Handziuk, Adviser of Kherson's Mayor.
Later, the Police have identified the sale location of the acid, which was used against Kateryna Handziuk.
