The National Police apprehended 13 people involved in the recent shooting in Brovary, Kyiv region. One of the detainees appeared to be a criminal mastermind known under the alias of Vekha (Landmark, - 112 International). Ukraine's Interior Minister Arsen Avakov said so on June 2.
The press office of the ministry claims that the detainees are now suspected of banditism and murder attempts.
"13 people were detained in Kyiv, Brovary and Irpin, led by criminal mastermind Vekha. It is clear that they were the ones who acted as the local carriers. All are suspected in brigandism and a murder attempt. Firearms and ammunition were seized. We'll get them all," Avakov said.
The police conducted 20 searches in the localities where the culprits lived. They seized weapons, radios, binoculars, balaclavas, drugs, and masks. The law enforcers also seized eight premium-class light-duty vehicles.
A shootout took place in the town of Brovary, not far from Kyiv, on May 29. According to the preliminary line of inquiry, a conflict broke between the entrepreneurs who perform passenger services and illegal carriers.
