PM declares state of emergency in Italy because of Genoa bridge collapse

The Head of Italian Government made this decision at the request of the local authority

Giuseppe Conte, Prime Minister of Italy declared a state of emergency in Genoa region because of the collapse of the bridge. Reuters reports this.

Conte explained that he made this decision at the request of the local authority. He stressed that toll-road operator Autostrade was responsible for the safety of the bridge, the government is not going to anticipate the results of the criminal proceeding and they would apply relevant measures.

Reportedly, a bridge collapsed in the Italian Genoa on August 14, according to the latest data people deceased. Initially, it was reported that the cause of the collapse could be the weakening of bearing structures. Later, Attorney Francesco Gozzi claimed that the cause of the tragedy was a human fault.  

Later, the Ukrainian consular office in Milan reported that only two Ukrainian citizens suffered as a result of the collapse.
