People say goodbye to border officer Vadym Berezinsky, who died as a result of the hit by smugglers' car in Zakarpattia region. Head Adviser of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine Oleh Slobodyan claimed this on Facebook.
‘Vadym Berezinsky bids farewell in Khmelnytsky region. He died in Zakarpattia region hit by smugglers’ car. Chairman of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine Petro Tsyhykal, who has also said him goodbye, claimed that the staff of the agency decided to promote Vadym Berezinsky to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel (posthumously),’ reads the message.
As we reported earlier, the smugglers on the car registered abroad ran over the Ukrainian border officer on Friday, November 16. He was delivered to a hospital with serious injuries, he was in a coma.
Everything started when Romanian colleagues detained two smugglers and ten packages of tobacco products on the Romanian side of the border. Soon after that, the border guards detained a man in the diving suit - in the Dilove border section, not far from Tysa river. He carried no documents, but he had a lot of money that he supposedly got for making the illegal deal. During primary investigative actions, another unknown perpetrator ran over the head of the Border Guard unit. The Border Guard officer sustained heavy injuries. The ambulance car took the serviceman to the intensive care unit, and he died the next day on November 17.
