Supporters of the referendum on Catalonia independence started occupying the buildings of some schools, where the vote is scheduled for October 1, according to El Pais.

It is noted that the supporters of the referendum are planning to ensure the operation of schools on the weekend, in an attempt to dodge the order of the Supreme Court of Catalonia to close education institutions, where the polls are supposed to be opened.

Parents, schoolchildren, and others decided to organize weekend activities at schools, including over-night ones: pajama parties, games, workshops, camping, etc. The media gives the example of Pau Casals school, where around 200 people, mostly parents, occupied the building.

“No incidents happened. The children are playing, and the parents are organizing the activities for the weekend,” the representatives of the parent commission explained.

As it was reported earlier, at least 10,000 striking high school and university students rallied in Barcelona this afternoon to defend Catalonia's right to hold an independence referendum which has been banned by Madrid.
