The US Department of Defense will provide its military bases to accommodate 1,000 people who can be quarantined after returning to the United States from overseas travel in connection with the spread of a new type of coronavirus. This was announced by Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman on his Twitter page.

"Secretary of Defense [Mark] Esper approved a request from the US Department of Health and Human Services to provide accommodation for 1,000 people who may need to be quarantined after they return from overseas travel in connection with the new coronavirus. According to this request, the Pentagon will provide only assistance in accommodation," he wrote.

We recall that an outbreak of a new coronavirus occurred in Chinese Wuhan at the end of last year. According to doctors, the virus is transmitted from person to person. Cases of the disease were found in several Asian countries, as well as in France, the USA, Australia, Canada, Germany.

As of Saturday, February 1, the coronavirus epidemic claimed the lives of 259 Chinese people.

The first death from coronavirus outside of China was recorded in the Philippines - a 44-year-old man who came from Wuhan died. The Philippine branch of the World Health Organization stated this in the massage on a page on Twitter.

"The 44-year-old man was the second person in the Philippines to be diagnosed with the new 2019-nCoV coronavirus. He died on February 1, 2020," the report said.

As we reported before, China has reported an outbreak of deadly H5N1 avian influenza in Hunan Province, located on the southern border of Hubei Province, the epicenter of coronavirus. The South China Morning Post reports with reference to a statement by the Ministry of Agriculture of China.

The outbreak occurred on a farm in the Shuangqing district of Shaoyang city.

Also, China asked the EU for help with the supply of medicines to fight the new coronavirus.

President of the State Council of the People's Republic of China Li Keqiang appealed for "urgent assistance" to the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.

It is noted that the request is addressed simultaneously to all countries that are part of the European Union.
