Singapore-based experts developed a PCR test that detects whether an individual carries the Omicron strain.
"The new BioA Omicron Detection Kit is able to detect the Omicron variant specifically, besides prior variants of the coronavirus. This means that a person will receive one of three results: Covid-19 positive and Omicron positive; Covid-19 positive and Omicron negative; or Covid-19 and Omicron negative", writes The Straits Time.
The BioA Omicron test does not require freezing, which makes it easier to ship and store it. The kit may be stored for a year at room temperature. The test results are supposed to be available within 90 minutes after the sample is collected.
Earlier, the United Nations predicted that international tourism arrivals would likely not rebound to pre-pandemic levels until at least 2023. This was stated by the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili.
“The UNWTO Panel of Experts predicts a very positive rebound driven by high deferred travel demand in the second and third quarters of 2022. At the moment, we are seeing a slight rebound in the regions of Southern Europe, Central America and the Caribbean," Zurab Pololikashvili said.
