The document foresees that from now on, the Law on the status and social protection of the citizens who suffered during the Chornobyl catastrophe applies to people who participated in post-accident clean-ups of other nuclear disasters, and those who took part in nuclear tests and military drills with the use of nuclear weapons.
It also allows spouses of the citizens who died due to involvement in such accidents or military drills to enjoy social benefits and compensations, but only in case he/she did not marry again.
The explanatory note says that as of 2015, there were 4186 citizens in Ukraine who either participated in post-accident clean-ups or joined military drills with the use of nuclear weapons. Most of them are elderly people.
