Over a quarter of Ukrainian citizens stay behind the poverty limit. Press office of Lyudmyla Denisova, the Parliamentary Ombudsman reported that on Thursday evening.
"More than a quarter of Ukraine's population is beyond the limit of poverty. The minimum wage in Ukraine makes some 75 dollars per capita per month. The minimal salary is 176 dollars", reads the message.
According to her, the poverty level of working population in Ukraine keeps growing - in spite of the growing salaries. Experts believe that every third worker lacks salary to satisfy their basic living requirements. Every second worker is employed on two or more jobs.
Denisova added that the level of debts on salary payment in Ukraine grew by 24 percent compared with the previous year - up to 200 million dollars.
The official also said that the level of poverty among retired people in Ukraine is constantly high; 80 percent of Ukrainian pensioneers get paid either on the brink of monetary poverty or even below that line.
