Over 80,000 people sickened with measles since the beginning of the outbreak in Ukraine. Such a large number of the ill people is tied with the absence of vaccinations as Public Health Center of the Healthcare Ministry reported.
According to the message, Lviv region leads in the number of the diseased people. Due to the high rates of the incidence and low rate of the vaccinated people in the regions, the decision to vaccinate all school children was made. Those children, who were not vaccinated against measles, mumps, and rubella, cannot visit the school. Thus, starting from February 1, 18,133 pupils were vaccinated in Lviv region. The same decision can be made for Vinnytsia region.
Public Health Center notes that despite the high rates of the incidence and fatalities, a lot of people are still not vaccinated. 95% of the population should be vaccinated to defeat the outbreak. Only 91% of the children at age starting from one year were vaccinated.
As we reported, seven people died from the complications caused by measles in Ukraine since the beginning of 2019.
Besides, the outbreak of measles was spotted among the personnel of the National Guard of Ukraine, assigned to Vinnytsia military unit. The first case of the sickness of measles was spotted before the New Year and now, the number of diseased increased up to more than a few dozens. The National Guard does not have a specialized medical unit so the soldiers are hospitalized to the city hospital. Four soldiers receive the treatment at Khmelnytsky District Hospital.
