Since the beginning of the quarantine (March 12, 2020) the status of unemployed was provided to 444,400 Ukrainians. As of August 31, the total amount of unemployed made 477,700 citizens and it is by 73% more than on the same date in 2019 as the State employment service reported.
It is noted that 400,000 received unemployment benefits at the end of August. Besides, over 409,000 people were employed since the beginning of the year, including 260,000 people during the lockdown.
“The majority of the Ukrainians found a new working place in the agriculture – 45% from all employed; the next is processing industry (14%) and trade sphere (13%). It should be noted that recently, the growth of the number of registered unemployed citizens has stopped. Thus, in April, the status of unemployed was provided to 149,000 people; in May, their number made 97,000; in June – 75,000; in July – 68,000,” the message said.
The service added that the payment of unemployment benefit allowed to keep working places for 367,000 of Ukrainians.
As we reported, the minimum wage in Ukraine was increased. Currently, it amounts to 5,000 hryvnias (181,4 dollars) per month and 29,2 hryvnias (1,06 dollars) per hour.
