In Germany, over 30,000 new cases of coronavirus infection in 24 hours were observed for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic as DW reported citing Robert Koch Institute.

It was noted that during the past 24 hours, 30,277 cases of coronavirus infection were registered in Germany. Besides, 813 people died in 24 hours due to complications from Covid-19. It is the second-largest number of deceased; on December 16, 952 lethal cases were reported.

Totally, as of December 18, 1.4 million coronavirus cases were registered in Germany.

The strict lockdown was introduced in Germany on December 16. It will last until January 10.

As we reported, the French government imposed a curfew from 8 p.m., including on New Year's Eve, as the number of infections creeps up again.

Meanwhile, France is preparing to kick off a nationwide Covid vaccination campaign in winter when it hopes virus shots will be approved and available.
