Over 1,000 illegal migrants were spotted in Kyiv and $223,548 of fines were paid. The Migration Service of Ukraine took stock of the spring operation Migrant, which aimed to check the observance of the stay terms in Ukraine by the foreigners as the body's press-office reported.
During the spring, the workers of the Central Interregional Department of Migration Service in Kyiv and Kyiv region actively checked the documents of people in the public places, dormitories, entertainment establishments, feeding areas, and train stations. The law enforcers succeeded to spot 1,194 people, who illegally stay in the territory of Ukraine. 1,087 people were forced to return home; the stay term of 127 people was shortened and another 107 people were forcibly deported from Ukraine. Over 2,000 people were prosecuted for administrative offenses for the violation of the legislation on the legal status of the foreigners and people without citizenship (foreigners and Ukrainians who promoted the illegal employment of the migrants). The total sum of the fines is $182,564.
Head of the Central Interregional Department of Migration Service in Kyiv and Kyiv region Vyacheslav Hudz explained: “Every year the number of the foreigners, who come to Ukraine for stay, increases. Some of them use students’ channel or procedure of the provision of the status of the refugee for the temporary legalization in Ukraine. For others, our state serves as the transitway to prosperous states of the European Union. In any case, the illegal migration threats the security of the host country and its overcoming remains to be the priority direction of the work of our service”.
Besides, it is noted that Kyiv and Kyiv region are leaders on the number of the migrants.
We reported that in 2018, the Czech Police on Foreigners detained 4,992 illegal migrants, most of whom were citizens of Ukraine.
