Outstanding Ukrainian philologist Oleksandr Ponomariv passes away

On Wednesday, October 14, at the age of 84, the famous Ukrainian philologist and teacher Oleksandr Ponomariv died. MP Mykola Knyazhytsky announced this on his Facebook page.

"Today, Oleksandr Ponomariv, an outstanding linguist and teacher, passed away ... Oleksandr Ponomariv's funeral will take place on Saturday (October 17)," the message says.

Ponomariv was the professor at the Department of Language and Stylistics at the Institute of Journalism of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.

More than 250 scientific works on the stylistics and culture of the Ukrainian language have been published under his authorship. The professor also blogged for BBC Ukraine, in which he answered questions from readers about the difficulties of the Ukrainian language.

On October 17, the professor was supposed to turn 85.
