"The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Torch Relay began its 121-day journey through Japan on March 25 following a grand launch ceremony in Fukushima," it said.
The first participant in the relay was the footballer Azusa Iwashimizu, who played for the Japanese national team from 2006 to 2016.
The relay will be held in all 47 prefectures of Japan and will last 121 days, until the opening of the Olympics on July 23. The closing ceremony is scheduled for August 8.
The games are due to take place from July 23 to August 8, 2021 without the participation of foreign fans.
