Oleksandr Kolodyazhny, Donetsk airport defender dies at hospital in Kyiv

He survived the battle and continued to fight in Donbas, but the fourth combat injury that he sustained since the beginning of the war proved lethal

Oleksandr Kolodyazhny, the veteran of Donbas conflict and the defender of Donetsk airport has passed away. He succumbed to a deadly wound that he had suffered in the combat zone. Tetyana Huba, the counselor of head of Dnipropetrovsk regional administration reported that on Facebook.

"Oleksandr Kolodyazhny, Staff Sergeant of the 74th Detached Mechanized Brigade, the holder of the 3rd degree Order For Courage, the People's Hero of Ukraine, a great man, a valiant and brave warrior... His fourth wound appeared lethal... His heart stopped at a central military hospital", she wrote.

Kolodyazhny suffered the wound in Donbas combat zone where he continued to serve with his comrades.

In May 2018, two culprits attacked Donetsk airport defender Dmytro Verbych. The military man suffered a knife wound to his back but survived. The attackers were detained in Kharkiv.
