Musician, vocalist, composer Oleh Skrypka and his band Vopli Vidoplyasova (VV) turned the famous Ukrainian carol Dobryi Vechir into the epic rock anthem.
As the tough year is coming to an end, the musicians want to remind fellow Ukrainians that it's a good way to meet the New Year with a good old carol; a poetic creation coming from the folklore has a great magic power. Besides, the carol sung to hail the birth of Christ is believed to be cleaning and setting people free from all the odd things.
Oleg Skrypka performed this particular carol during the winter edition of Kraina Mriy festival (Ukrainian for Land of Dreams). And the VV first played this carol at Kyiv's Palace of Sports in December 2019. That's when they decided to turn the old beloved Christmas song into a stadium rock composition.
Last year, Members of the International Training Centre of the National Guard of Ukraine recorded a cover version of Shchedryk, the world's most famous carol. The video was published on the YouTube channel of the Centre. The clip was apparently filmed in Kyiv; the Kyivites may easily recognize Kontraktova Square as the venue.
