Several Ukrainian cities refuse to introduce weekend quarantine

The local authorities believe that quarantine measures will affect the economy

A number of cities in Ukraine refused to introduce the weekend quarantine, explaining such a decision with grave consequences for their economies as local mass media and mayors of the cities reported.

Thus, the city authorities of Cherkasy held the meeting of the commission of technogeneous and ecological situation and emergency situations. It made a decision not to introduce the weekend quarantine as local mass media 18000 reported.

“The weekend quarantine is not to be introduced in Cherkasy,” the message said.

It is noted that the entrepreneurs also participated in the meeting of the commission and they asked not to introduce the weekend quarantine. They asked the permission for work of small stores, food facilities and shopping malls which square might provide the observation of the distance.

Kramatorsk also refused to introduce the weekend quarantine as City Mayor Andriy Pankov reported on Facebook.

“In our view, the restrictions introduced by the regulation of the Cabinet of Ministers #1100 dated November 11 all over Ukraine, do not consider the significant differences between cities and should be reconsidered. Such decisions should be adopted only locally,” the mayor said.

Moreover, he underlined that owners and administrators of the food facilities in the city responsibly approached to the organization of the inner space with the observation of all safety measures.

The mayor added that the relevant letter with a request to consider the opinion of the city authorities was sent to the government on Friday.

Ternopil will also not to introduce the weekend quarantine as City Head Serhiy Nadal reported.

“I want to officially inform you: any extra restrictions will not be introduced in Ternopil due to the weekend quarantine,” the mayor said.

According to him, these restrictions will destroy the economy of the city. He also noted that he held consultations with experts before the adoption of the decision.

“Why these restrictions will not be adopted? Firstly, according to the medics, it will not significantly influence the number of infected. These restrictions will simply destroy the economy of the city,” he stated.

Earlier, Lviv, Odesa and Slщvyansk also stated that they would not be observed the weekend quarantine.

As we reported, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine made a decision to introduce the weekend quarantine all over the country. The strict quarantine will act from 00:00 a.m. Saturday until 00:00 a.m. Monday. On the weekend, only objects of the critical infrastructure, particularly, groceries, drug stores and transport will work in the country.
