The number of people infected with a new type of coronavirus in the world as of October 18, exceeded 40 million, according to data from the Worldometers website.

According to it, at the moment more than 40 million infected with Covid-19 have been registered in the world, of which 1 115 154 people died of the disease. Already 29 919 338 patients have overcome this dangerous illness.

The first place is still the United States, where 8 343 140 citizens of the country fell ill with coronavirus. The second position is taken by India with 7 494 551 recorded cases of the disease.

Brazil closes the top three in terms of the number of infected people - there Covid-19 was confirmed in 5 224 362 people.

As reported, 5,231 new cases of Covid-19 were registered in Ukraine this morning, bringing the total number of infected people to 298,872.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, as a result of complications caused by the disease, 5607 people have died in the country (+90 over the past day), but 125 377 (+1264) patients have already recovered. The number of active cases of Covid-19 is 167,888.

The introduction of strict quarantine in Ukraine will be considered only if nothing else can be done. The chief state sanitary doctor Viktor Lyashko told about this in an interview with Radio Liberty.

"We are doing everything possible at the national level to prevent, firstly, the collapse of the healthcare system, and secondly, so as not to stop our economy. We understand that the introduction of a hard lockdown is already an exclusively such a reserve moment when nothing else will be possible to do," he said.

Lyashko believes that at the moment the medical system is coping with this issue.
