As of morning on Friday, Jan. 12, 74 instances of infection with measles were recorded in Kyiv, as the press service of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection informs.
Out of them, 57 are children. Most of the infected are kids of 5-9 years old – 46.5%. 16 instances of infection were reported among pre-school children and another 30 – among schoolchildren.
Prophylactic and anti-epidemic measures are underway in over 50 preschools and schools.
As we reported 54 people, including 43 children sickened of measles since the beginning of 2018. Measles is is a highly contagious infection. Initial signs and symptoms typically include fever, often greater than 40° C, cough, running nose, and inflamed eyes. Complications occur in about 30% of cases and may include diarrhoea, blindness, inflammation of the brain, and pneumonia.
