Northern Macedonia joins NATO

After the ratification by all the counties of the Alliance, Macedonia will become the 30th member of the bloc

The ceremony of signing the treaty of Northern Macedonia joining the North Atlantic Alliance took place at the NATO HQ today, on February, 6. The NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg reported this on Twitter.

On behalf of the Alliance, the document was signed by representatives from 29 countries. Northern Macedonia was represented by Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikolai Dimitrov.
Stoltenberg expressed hope that the ratification of the document would take place as soon as possible.

“When all 29 countries of NATO sign the ratification the document, we will be able to congratulate the Republic of Northern Macedonia on becoming the 30th member of NATO”, Secretary General reported.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin congratulated Macedonia with signing the treaty on Twitter.

“Congratulations to our friends on signing the treaty about entering NATO. This is a good event, which inspires us a lot. None of the historical events and differences will prevent the pursuit of security and democracy. I'm sure Ukraine will find its way to NATO as well”, he wrote.
