An attacker armed with a knife took hostages and held them at Newcatsle’s Job Centre Plus on Friday, June 9.

BBC reported that with reference to the local police.

According to the article, the incident took place in Newcastle’s Baker district.

‘He entered the premises on Clifford Street in Byker at about 08:00 BST. Police said several members of staff were being held by him. Northumbria Police said following reports the man could be in the possession of an explosive device the bomb disposal unit was at the scene. The man is believed to be the only person in the building. Negotiators and armed police remain on the scene and roads around the premises have been closed as a precaution,’ the story goes.

The law enforcers added that the Job Centre staff actually knew the attacker; the incident itself is not considered as a terrorist attack.
