The Kherson region, as well as the region that borders with Russia or occupied territories, will become the staging ground for the spread of the wave of the Covid-19 pandemic caused by the Delta strain as ZN.UA reported citing Chief Sanitary Doctor of the Kherson region Yuriy Romaskevich.
“You know what happens in Crimea that the new wave of the coronavirus in Russia has started much earlier than in Ukraine. When the testing was canceled at Chonhar and Kalanchak checkpoints from the side of the occupied Crimea (June 15-16), we have observed the change of the nature of the state of the disease. From the point of view of epidemiology as the science, there is no outbreak; there is an epidemic process grounded by two main factors: huge arrival of infected from Crimea and non-observance of the quarantine by population,” Romaskevich noted.
According to him, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhia, Luhansk and Donetsk regions are in the risk zone, apart from the Kherson region.
“According to the incidence – we are in the top list; in other words, we have the highest rates in Ukraine…The critical hospitalization rate, I believe, we will have on August 20-25,” the medic supposed.
As we reported, the Health Ministry of Ukraine offers to extend quarantine for another two months.
