In Germany, at the hospital of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bavaria, a 35-year-old patient was diagnosed with the new strain of coronavirus that does not look like earlier detected variants in South Africa and the UK as DW reported.
It is noted that it is unknown yet how contagious the new strain is.
"The mere fact that it's a new variant doesn't mean it's more infectious." Head of the hospital Frank Niederbühl said.
The samples of the patient were sent to Berlin Charite Hospital for further examination. After the studies, it would be clear how dangerous the new coronavirus strain is.
Meanwhile, it is noted that recently, the level of new infection cases has reduced in Germany and the occupancy of the intensive care units with coronavirus patients reduced by 10-15%.
As we reported, the global inequality in the access to the vaccines against Covid-19 might cause the appearance of more dangerous mutations of the coronavirus.
