Nepal closes access to Everest due to case of Covid-19 observed in this country

A case of coronavirus caused the government of Nepal to temporarily shut down the access to Everest. The Himalayan reported that, claiming that the flights to this area have been suspended for now. 

"One case of coronavirus infection was reported in Namche Bazar today following which flights to the Everest region have been suspended until further notice (...) Meanwhile, a team of doctors will be dispatched to Namche Bazar tomorrow to collect mass samples for testing, Chairperson of Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee Ang Dorje Sherpa informed", reads the message.

The outlet writes that ceasing flights will affect the trekking in the area of Everest.

In March 2020, alpinism in Nepal was suspended because of the pandemic. However, in August the government decided to open access for those willing to climb Mt. Everest.

According to Worldometers, Nepal is now 34th in the world in terms of number of Covid-infected people. 148,000 people got infected in the country since the pandemic began. 812 cases proved lethal.
