NBU: Shredded money found near Dnipro

The Regulator says a third party company is undertaking an utilization based on an agreement

The National Bank started an investigation into the bags full of shredded money that were found near Dnipro city. The press office of the Regulator reported it on Facebook.

Earlier, Informator, an online outlet revealed shots taken near Kryvirizke highway. Dozens of bags full of shredded money were found there. The bags were pinned with tags of the NBU.

The National Bank is closely investigating the situation. The Bank is figuring out all circumstances of the incident. The NBU refrains from giving commentaries on the incident until the facts are established and the investigation is over,’ the Regulator claims.

The NBU representatives pointed out that only very worn banknotes are removed from the circulation and shredded. The process takes place in the regional branches of the NBU or in the central vaults. After that, the shredded money is either collected in bags or pressed into briquettes and passed to specialized landfills of solid industrial waste. Those companies that have signed an agreement with the NBU undertake the utilization.

In order to figure out the circumstances of the incident, the National Bank put a request to the company, which is undertaking the utilization in accordance with the agreement. The National Bank will take measures in case the company violated conditions of the agreement,’ the Regulator claims.
