Russian opposition figure Alexei Navalny has been enjoying the support of U.S. special services, and his poisoning is merely a political trick. President Vladimir Putin said so during the press conference, cited by Radio Sputnik.
During the press conference, Russian leader was asked about the investigation into Navalny poisoning. Putin described the respective stories published by Western media as "legalization of the work of Amercian special services and added that it means that Navalny was enjoying the support of U.S. special services".
"And if it's true, then it's interesting. Then, of course, [Russian] special services should be keeping an eye on him. But that doesn't mean one should poison him. Who cares about him, anyway? If they wanted to do so, they would succeed for sure. But then again, [Navalny's] wife turned to me, and I instantly ordered to let him out for treatment to Germany. On the spot", he said.
Accroding to the politician, Navalny's poisoning is some sort of "political trick" to make him look like a figure that is equal to top-level officials.
In August, Alexei Navalny fainted while on a plane, on a domestic flight from Tomsk to Moscow. He was taken to a hospital in Omsk (Russia), and then transferred to Charite cliinc in Berlin. Experts of special lab of the German military ran the toxicological analysis of the samples taken from him. The results showed traces of Novichok nerve agent in his body. Similar labs in Sweden and France reached the same conclusions, and so did the experts from OPCW.
Moscow denied any allegations with involvement in the attempt on Navalny's life, but the EU still introduced sanctions against the Kremlin in October.
