International NATO military exercises Summer Shield XIV start today in Latvia. Trainings would be held at the Adazh landfill and adjacent territory from 17 to 30 April, and more than 1,200 soldiers will take part in it. Servicemen from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, the USA, Canada, Great Britain, Luxembourg, Bulgaria, Romania, Slovakia, Germany and Sweden will participate in the annual international exercises.
This year, the exercises will develop servicemen skills of a wide range combat support.
Earlier NATO fighter planes exercises were conducted in Estonia.
"Deploying NATO aircraft in the Baltic states is part of the concept of "smart defense", which goal is to save the resources of the alliance states for joint contribution to various capacities," the press service of the Defense Forces reported.
