"We can confirm that one NATO officer, working at NATO headquarters in Brussels, was tested with a positive result at Covid-19," the statement said.
It is known that the employee returned from a vacation in the north of Italy, felt unwell at the end of last week and was examined due to the appearance of symptoms of the virus, including high fever.
“Currently, the employee is in isolation at home. A few minutes after receiving the result, all his immediate colleagues were informed. They worked from home at the end of last week and continue to do this,” the press service said.
It is also reported that NATO continues to monitor the situation on an ongoing basis and take all necessary measures.
The Office also recalls that, in order to ensure the safety of staff and visitors, the headquarters of the Alliance have already taken preventive measures based on WHO guidelines to reduce the risk of further spread of the infection.
This includes the temporary suspension of business trips of some employees, recommendations to employees to work from home and the temporary suspension of group visits to NATO headquarters in Brussels.
"We maintain close contacts with the Belgian authorities. NATO has reliable measures and plans for the continuity of activities to ensure the continuation of our core work," the organization emphasizes.
