The official emblem of NATO, the compass rose was installed on Kyiv's European Square instead of the Euro-2012 memorial. This is due to holding of the events dedicated to 70th anniversary of the Alliance, as 112.ua reported citing Kyiv Mayor Advisor Dmytro Bilotserkivets.
According to him, NATO Information and Documentation Center appealed to the city. On May 21, the organization along with Spilna Peremoga NGO held the event dedicated to 70th anniversary of the establishment of NATO. It provided the themed decoration of the square and holding of the solemn events with the participation of the officials and the locals.
The official letter of NATO Information and Documentation Center to Kyiv Mayor Vitaly Klitschko notes that the issue of the themed decoration of the European Square was agreed with Pechersk District State Administration.
Bilotserkivets specified that the emblem of the Alliance is established temporarily. But he did not specify the period of time, noting that the proper decision is not made yet -“possibly, until the next event,” as he put it.
The NATO Parliamentary Assembly session will take place in Kyiv in spring 2020. The proper decision was signed by Ukrainian Parliament Speaker Andry Paruby.
