National Bank of Ukraine asks to block accounts of sanctioned smugglers

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) sends letters to banks requesting to block the accounts of smugglers who have been recently sanctioned by the National Security and Defense Council. Ukrainian News reported this.

The Financial Monitoring Department of the NBU prepares and sends letters to banks, the Independent Association of Banks, the Association of Ukrainian Banks and the Ukrainian Capital Markets Association on all President of Ukraine decrees entered into force the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine "On the Application and Amendment of Personal Special Economic and Other Restrictive Measures (Sanctions)".

Such a letter was sent to banks and associations regarding the President of Ukraine Decree enforced the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine dated April 2, 2021 "On the Application and Amendment of Personal Special Economic and Other Restrictive Measures (Sanctions)".

The National Bank emphasizes the need for banks and non-banking institutions to comply with legislation in the field of sanctions.

As it was reported earlier, Ukraine has imposed personal sanctions against the "top 10" Ukrainian smugglers. In particular, the assets of persons involved in smuggling were blocked.
