Ukraine-made film Myth, dedicated to the famous opera singer Vasyl Slipak won in the documentaries category at Figueira Film Art festival; the event took place in Figueira, Portugal from August 27 till September 2. UNIAN news agency reported that on Monday morning.
Myth is the story of life and death of the Ukrainian soloist who worked at Paris National Opera. He was the active participant in the 2004 Orange Revolutio; during the 2013-2014 revolution of Dignity, he led the voluinteer movement in France, which supported the activists in Ukraine. In 2015, he joined the Ukrainian military in Donbas as a volunteer. In June 2016, he was shot dead by the sniper.
Slipak was posthumously awarded the Hero of Ukraine title.
Earlier, the city council of Kyiv reported it woud consider the draft decision of the mayor about the creation of the minipark named after Vasyl Slipak; the famous Ukrainian opera singer lost his life in the fight in Donbas. Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko offered to set the minipark at Andriivsky Descent street, 33/6, in the old historical part of Podil district.
'June 29, marks two years since our famous opera singer Vasyl Slipak deceased in combat; he abandoned highly-paid work abroad and came to Ukraine to protect the independence and territorial integrity of this country. Kyiv has to pay tribute to the hero who gave his life for Ukraine', Klitschko said.
According to him, the issue of creation of the minipark was brought up by the local NGOs; the only trouble now is that the respective land parcel is currently rented. However, the mayor assures the citizens that the government developed a legal mechanism to solve the issue. 'We also hope that the owner also shows his civiс position', Klitschko said.
