Filmmaker Evgeniy Afineevsky became the member of the American Film Academy. Thanks to this achievement, he will now enjoy the right to participate in the voting for granting the Oscar awards. The moviemaker posted this on Facebook on Tuesday.
His own film, 'Winter on Fire', the movie about Euromaidan movement in Kyiv in 2013-2014, was nominated for this award in 2016; it was also shown during Venice Film Festival. Afineevsky was granted the Cross of Ivan Mazepa, the high-rank civilian award, from the hands of President Poroshenko.
The 45-year-old film director has been living in the U.S. since the 1990s. He worked on full motion pictures until 2010, and then switched to documentaries.
In 2015, he released 'Winter on Fire', which shows the drama and tragedy that unfurled during the events of Euromaidan and the Revolution of Dignity in Ukraine in late 2013 and early 2014. The film critics consider this documentary one of the most comprehensive films about Euromaidan.
