More than seven thousand children were killed or injured as a result of the armed conflict in Syria. This was stated at the meeting of the Security Council by the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General on Children and Armed Conflict, Virginia Gamba, the UN website reports.

 
"I must emphasize that this is only confirmed data. In unconfirmed reports it is about more than 20 thousand victims among children," she said.

In addition, she said, Syrian children are being enlisted in the ranks of armed groups. Most of these violations were committed in the last six months during the offensive of various parties in the areas of Afrin, Hama, Idlib, East Guta.

"Since the beginning of 2018, there have been 1,200 cases of violence against children in armed conflict, including 600 children were killed or wounded, about 180 children were brought into service in armed detachments, and more than 60 schools were attacked. 100 attacks were made on hospitals and other medical facilities and medical personnel, "the Special Representative said.

Virginia Gamba also stressed that in Syria about 2.1 million children do not go to school - buildings are either destroyed or used for military purposes.
