Since early 2017, more than 600,000 people have returned to their homes in Syria. This was reported by the International Organization for Migration of the United Nations, informs DW.

The overwhelming majority of those who returned home are internally displaced persons (80%), the rest are refugees in Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq.

Organization noted that the main reasons for the return are the desire of people to protect their property and hope for an improvement in the situation in Syria.

According to the UN, about two thirds of the population of Syria (more than 11 million Syrians) are outside the country.

As reported earlier, in Lebanon, a fire destroyed a camp of Syrian refugees, many people were injured.
