220-240,000 citizens could get coronavirus without imposing a quarantine in Ukraine. Chief State Sanitary Doctor and Deputy Minister of Health Viktor Lyashko stated this during the television program called Freedom of Speech of Savik Shuster, according to Ukrainska Pravda.
"But we have a number of forecasts. The forecasts that were developed even before we introduced quarantine. And if we had not implemented quarantine measures, according to forecasts, today we would have somewhere around 220-240 thousand patients with coronavirus disease," Lyashko noted.
According to him, such prognostic data were obtained by the Ministry of Health in conjunction with World Bank experts when they analyzed the models used in China, the UK and Italy.
Lyashko assured that quarantine measures were introduced in Ukraine on time, which is why a more optimistic picture has emerged: the healthcare system is coping with the epidemic at the moment.
As we reported earlier, the number of daily PCR tests for coronavirus in Ukraine will be increased in June; the new daily number will increase 20,000.
