1,547 orphans and children deprived of parental care were adopted in Ukraine in the first 11 months of 2018. Another 4,904 children were taken to foster families. It is reported by the press service of the Ministry of Social Policy, informs UNN.
“According to the operational data of the children's affairs services, as of November 30, 2018, 1,547 orphans and children deprived of parental care were adopted in Ukraine, among them: 1,221 citizens of Ukraine and 326 foreigners,” the ministry said.
To date, more than 17 thousand orphans and children deprived of parental care are registered in Ukraine. Of these, 4500 live in public institutions of various types, the rest are in families (guardianship, foster families, family-type orphanages).
Earlier we reported that from January to September 2018, 138 orphans from Ukraine were adopted by US citizens. This is reported by the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine.
The ministry noted that in recent years, the number of children from our country adopted by Americans has been decreasing. In 2014, US citizens adopted 431 children, in 2015 - 299, in 2016 - 301, and for 9 months of the current year - 138.
Of the total number of Ukrainian children adopted by Americans, almost half are adolescents, and a quarter are children with special needs.
The Ministry of Social Policy noted that the United States is one of the main strategic partners of Ukraine in the field of adoption of children, and the number of US citizens wishing to adopt a child in Ukraine remains consistently high.
According to official data, from 2008 to 2017, 27,000 orphans were adopted in Ukraine, for almost 19,000 of them citizens of other countries became new parents.
