In Ukraine, a minute of silence was observed in tribute to those killed for freedom and independence. A minute of silence was announced by President Volodymyr Zelensky during the Independence Day events on Sofia Square in Kyiv.
"Dear Ukrainians! Always, and especially today, on the Independence Day of Ukraine, we bow to the feat of all our heroes, who for the sake of our independence gave their lives for Ukraine, for its future, for its freedom. Let us honor the memory of the dead with a minute of silence!" Zelensky said in his address.
