Several millions of people took to the streets in Brazil in the first general strike in more than two decades, according to BBC.
""It is going to be the biggest strike in the history of Brazil," head of trade union group noted.
Public transport staff, employees of private organizations, bankers and teachers took part in the rally.
People were protesting against pension reforms proposed by country’s president Michel Temer. According to Brazilian leader, these changes are necessary to overcome economic crisis.
Demonstrations took place all over the country. At the same time, rally organizers noted that they would focus attention on holding protests in the big cities.
There is no information about the victims during protests yet.
It was also reported that Rio de Janeiro police dispersed protesters against reforms using tear gas.
Protesters were setting barricades from tires on fire, demonstrators also trashed the department of one of the banks. Earlier 16 people were detained during similar action in Sao Paulo, according to TASS.
About 40 million people took part in the protests according to the trade unions.
