The Government of Japan will use old cell phones and other equipment to extract gold, silver and bronze and make medals for the Olympic Games 2020 to be held in Tokyo in April this year. TechCrunch reports this.
The special boxes where people can put unnecessary phones will be installed in Japan's Olympic Committee offices and mobile phone stores across the country.
The organizers hope to collect about 8 tons of metal from old devices. 5000 different medals for Olympics and Paralympics will be produced.
