Measles incidence decreases in Ukraine, - Healthcare Ministry

The only protection from measles is the vaccination

2,524 people, including 1,230 adults and 1,312 children sickened with measles during the ninth week of 2019 as the Healthcare Ministry reported.

It is noted that 25-days-old infant died from measles in Khmelnytsky region this year. Totally, ten people, including three children, died this year. 31 people died from the beginning of the measles outbreak.

“From December 28, 2018, up to March 1, 2019, 26,544 people, including 11,797 adults and 14,747 children sickened in Ukraine. The highest rate of incidence is in Lviv (4,021 people: 1,335 adults, 2,686 children), Vinnytsia (2,339 people: 1,014 adults, 1,325 children), Rivne (2,299 people: 808 adults, 1,491 children) regions and Kyiv (2,310 people: 1,293 adults, 1,017 children),” the message said.

Earlier, it was reported that over 15,000 Ukrainian sickened with measles in January 2019. However, the measles epidemic was not declared in Ukraine.

Besides, the outbreak of measles was spotted among the personnel of the National Guard of Ukraine, assigned to Vinnytsia military unit. The first case of the sickness of measles was spotted before the New Year and now, the number of diseased increased up to more than a few dozens. The National Guard does not have a specialized medical unit so the soldiers are hospitalized to the city hospital. Four soldiers receive the treatment at Khmelnytsky District Hospital.
