The city council of Kyiv is to consider the draft decision of the mayor about the creation of the minipark named after Vasyl Slipak; the famous Ukrainian opera singer lost his life in the fight in Donbas. The press service of the council reported this on July 3.
Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko offers to set the minipark at Andriivsky Descent street, 33/6, in the old historical part of Podil district.
'June 29, marks two years since our famous opera singer Vasyl Slipak deceased in combat; he abandoned highly-paid work abroad and came to Ukraine to protect the independence and territorial integrity of this country. Kyiv has to pay tribute to the hero who gave his life for Ukraine', Klitschko said.
According to him, the issue of creation of the minipark was brought up by the local NGOs; the only trouble now is that the respective land parcel is currently rented. However, the mayor assures the citizens that the government developed a legal mechanism to solve the issue. 'We also hope that the owner also shows his civiс position', Klitschko said.
Vasyl Slipak was the soloist of the Paris National Opera. He was the active participant of 2004 and 2014 revolutions in Ukraine. In 2015, he voulnteered for the army, fighting Russian militants in Donbas. In June 2015, he was shot dead by the enemy sniper not far from Luhanske, Donetsk region.
