Mass protests against "parasitism decree" take place in Belarus

In Belarus, mass rallies against the decree on social parasitism are held in Babruysk, Baranovichi, Brest and Vitebsk, according to Belarus Partisan.

About 300 people gathered at the square in Baranovichi. Approxiamtely the same number of people came at main square in Brest.



Rally in Babruysk numbered some 1500 residents, it has ended with adopting of resolution. There were no reported arrests during the protest.


Protest in Vitebsk began at Victory Square during Maslenitsa official event. Around two thousand people marched in the city.

As it is known, "Law Against Social Parasites" was signed in April 2015, according to which unemployed and able-bodied persons who were not paying taxes more than half a year had to pay an annual fine (more than 200 dollars).

According to the tax ministry in Belarus, about 10% of people who were notified of not paying "parasitism taxes" have paid the fine. About 470 thousand Belarus citizens received such "gift letters".
