A march for women's rights is taking place in the center of Kyiv.
This year, the main theme of the event is the rights of women in a pandemic. According to the initiators of the march, the pandemic has exacerbated social problems in society, including negatively affecting the activities of women.
After the world had been in quarantine for a year, it became clear that the level of domestic violence had skyrocketed. The inability to isolate the aggressor further complicates the situation and increases the vulnerability of the victims, their need for protection and assistance. The organizers of the action remind that Ukrainians are still waiting for the ratification of the Istanbul Convention. However, this "women's question" is still irrelevant for the Ukrainian authorities.
Among the demands of the march are: the ratification of the Istanbul Convention, the end of cutting social guarantees for those who have lost their jobs, the creation of safe working conditions for women employed in areas at high risk of contracting the coronavirus, ensuring access to all medical and preventive services, opening shelters for women suffering from domestic violence, investigation of cases of violence by far-right organizations.
As the march takes place amid the coronavirus pandemic, participants are urged to comply with safety rules.
